Geoffrey WirthI have enjoyed making things my whole life. From the age of five or six I remember sawing wood with a backsaw. It was the beginning of a life filled with craft, and a love of creating. I have been a professional woodworker since 1988, but only recently fulfilled the dream of opening my own shop. I enjoy being able to work with a client to design and build something unique. That interaction, and the ability to develop my own identity as a builder has been very rewarding. It is great to have a client come to the shop and see how their ideas are made. My influences range from the Arts and Crafts to contemporary work being
done today. I strive to make pieces that are simple, but still have something
extra. All my work is built using traditional construction methods. These
include mortise and tenon joinery, and dovetailed drawers in solid wood.
Most pieces have a hand rubbed oil finish. These are methods that have
stood the test of time, and age gracefully. I want my work to be used,
and gain character with age. |
